On Wednesday, October 16, the City of Dallas received recognition from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region 6 for its Class 3 Rating in the Community Rating System (CRS) Program. FEMA’s Region 6 Regional Administrator, Tony Robinson, presented the award to Dallas Water Utilities Floodplain Administrator, David Phan.
The rating recognizes the city’s efforts in executing, implementing, documenting and improving floodplain management practices that exceed the minimum requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The City of Dallas is one of twelve communities nationwide with a Class 3 Rating and is the highest rated community in the state of Texas.
The City of Dallas has participated in the Community Rating System Program since 1991 and over 1,500 communities participate nationwide. The CRS program is a voluntary incentive program that recognizes and encourages community floodplain management practices that exceed the minimum requirements of the NFIP.
The Class 3 Rating allows Dallas residents to receive a 35% discount on their flood insurance policies purchased through the NFIP. Dallas residents are encouraged to consider purchasing flood insurance for their properties at a discounted rate. To learn more, visit National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
